Solo Dripper
SOLO is a coffee brewing system designed by Jackie Tran (sixth place in the 2024 World Coffee Brewing Championship) of Mazelab Coffee in the Czech Republic.
It is a very durable coffee filter, perfect for use at home, in a coffee shop, at a competition, or traveling, no matter the environment. The SOLO system includes a separate filter cup that fits most glass pitchers, a versatile ceramic pitcher and sensory cup, and a compact protective container for travel - all crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Designed and produced in Prague, Czech Republic, Solo uses harmonious principles of geometry to ensure you can have the perfect cup of coffee anytime, anywhere.
Conical filter cups generally produce a lighter, more acidic cup of coffee. A flat-bottomed filter makes it easier to get a fuller, sweeter coffee profile.
40° ANGLE
Let’s first talk about the iconic filter cup for hand-brewed coffee – V60. To understand it, imagine a flat surface, such as a tabletop, a 180° plane, think of it as a semicircle. If you divide this semicircle into thirds, you get three 60° angles. This results in a balanced, symmetrical cross-section, an efficient tapered shape ideal for filter coffee.
SOLO wants to go beyond this traditional design. Therefore, it is not just a semicircle that is considered, but a complete circle, i.e. 360°. This represents a full circle and opens up even more creative possibilities. Divide a circle into nine equal parts, each forming a 40° angle.
Why nine?
In many cultures, the number nine symbolizes completeness and the end of a cycle, which aligns with the goal of even extraction. The 40° angle in the SOLO Dripper provides a new depth-to-width ratio, enhancing contact between water and coffee grounds for ideal extraction.
From a complete circle, the importance of the number 9
The SOLO Dripper not only functions better, but resonates with the natural harmony of all things in the universe. This approach ensures a more efficient, balanced brewing experience that makes every cup of coffee unique.
Design Concept
Faster flow rate
The large hole in the middle allows water to flow quickly through the coffee grounds, making the coffee brighter and cleaner.
40˚ Angle Wall
The filter cup is at a 40-degree angle, effectively guiding the water to flow evenly through the coffee powder, thereby obtaining a uniform extraction
Arc bottom hole
The curved bottom design naturally guides the water flow to the center hole, ensuring even extraction of the coffee powder. This helps prevent channeling while promoting consistent extraction, which is key to getting a balanced cup of coffee every time.
consistency
The SOLO Dripper is designed to make it easy for you to get consistent brewing results every time. You can change the taste of the coffee by changing the coffee grind size and water filling method.
balance
Even with fast flow rates, SOLO's design ensures that the coffee powder is evenly and fully exposed to the water, so you can get a cup of coffee with a rounded and complex taste.
