The Rungeto Farmers Cooperative is situated in the heart of Embu County in the Central Province of Kenya. Their main goal is to establish and maintain good agricultural practices to enhance both quality and yield of their members’ crops. Over 1.400 local farmers bring their ripe cherries to the three key factories (Kii, Karimikui and Kiangoi) for hand sorting before pulping. The parchment is then fermented overnight in tanks to break down the sugars of the mucilage. After fermentation, the parchment is then washed and graded. The final stage is the drying of the coffee on raised beds, which takes between 8 and 14 days.
